This year while in my grade 12 English class I have learned a lot. We have talked about how many different authors use different writing styles and how impactful they can be for the story, we have also looked at Shakespeare and how he has inspired on many of the best authors. Tho use are just two of the many thins I have learned this year, it would take too long to list them all! It is safe to say I have learned a lot this year and it has been reflected very well throughout my work as the recent work I have done is much better than when I began at the beginning of the year. I am going to give you a little recap of what I think my best work and the work I am most proud of that I have completed throughout this course is.

I am very proud of this presentation because of how much time I spent collecting information and how much of a better understanding of the novella I had after doing so. This was our class ISP where we had to read a novel and explain the key parts of the novel. This presentation goes over Steinbeck and his inspiration to write, some important quotes and their importance, including some of the main symbols and structural analysis of the quotes I also talked about how big of an inspiration he was to other writers within the mid 1900’s.

For me this was probably one of the most fun writing assignments we did this year. I really enjoyed this assignment because the ending of Of Mice and Men is so sad and not something you wanted to happen and in this assignment I got to write like Steinbeck and change the ending of the book to something happy. This was an adapting famous writers assignment where we had to rewrite the ending of a book using the same writing style and structure as the author. I had a fun time writing this but I am also very proud of it because I did a very good job writing like Steinbeck did within this novella. I included lots of conversation and included the slang he used throughout the book.

This comparison essay was one of the best pieces of work I have done throughout the course. This essay contains a comparison between ‘The Tables Turned’ by the English Romantic poet, William Wordsworth and Pauline Johnson’s nature poem ‘The Song my Paddle Sings’. I describd each poem and the language features used and provided points of comparison between two poems. I am very proud of this essay because I spent a lot of time working on it and I got one of my best grade that I have gotten all year on this essay. In this essay I made sure I included an in depth analysis of each poem and then a detailed comparison between them as well.

In this assignment we were assessing how King Lear’s power and his morality changed throughout the play and write down quotes to back up our reasoning. When I read the play its was obvious to me that he started off with very high power and very low morality but by the end of the play everything switched, as he ended with high morality and low power. I am proud of this assignment because all of my thoughts were clearly stated and it is very clear to see the correlation between his fall from power to his gain of morality. I also think I did a very good job picking out important quotes to back up my reasoning for where I ranked King Lear at the spot I put him through each scene.

This was the first essay that we wrote this year, it was based off of our power verses morality posters I mentioned above. In this essay we were analyzing the relationship and how King Lears morality and his power changed throughout the play. I am proud of this essay because it was the first essay I had written in over a year and the feedback I got on this essay helped me improve my writing and do even better on my next assignments.

I had a lot of fun creating this website but not quite as much fun as I had in my ENG4U class with Mr. Cohen! Throughout this class I have learned so much about different writing styles and so many ways to improve my writing. I designed my website with mostly blue and green colours because they are my favourite colours and I find that they are very calming. I also included the picture of the hockey net because I love hockey and I thought I would include it because it is a main part of my life. I really enjoyed this English class because I realized how much it would help me in the future as I want to pursue business. In business you need to know how to write reports and have very good communication skills and this class has helped me improve my writing and public speaking skills so much. This was by far the most fun English class I have ever been in mainly because of the crickets lessons with Mr. Cohen!
